Do you live for speed? Did you know you could get a license to race? If you’re ready to get behind the wheel be warned it’s not something you can do overnight or if you’re short on cash. First you need to purchase the starter pack from the Motor Sports Association (MSA), or from one of the members of the Association of Racing Drivers’ Schools (ARDS). Visit the Motor Sports Association website for more information on obtaining the starter kit: www.msauk.org.
Your new starter kit will include various application forms, an informational DVD, and other documents about racing safety. Be sure to watch the DVD (more than once) as it highlights the basic rules and flag signals necessary for participating. You’ll want to understand all of the information covered on the DVD since it will be covered on the test. Once you’re comfortable with the information you can book an appointment to take the test at one of the member schools. All the details on the ARDS testing and how to schedule a test are included in the starter kit.
If you are over the age of 18 you will also need to take a medical exam before you are allowed to take the test. A basic medical can be done by your preferred doctor. There is a special form for your doctor to complete that is also included in the kit. The ARDS test can cost an upwards of $300 dollars since it includes the use of a school car and a personal evaluation process.
The final step before you are off to the races is to send your license application with the proof documents for passing the test to the appropriate location. For more information on this visit: http://www.scca.org/
