The role of and relationship between couriers and labs/medical institutions is much more complex than just picking up and delivering packages for a customer. Rather than explaining it ourselves, check out this awesome video presentation by Jane Hermansen, Outreach Program Coordinator at Mayo Medical Laboratories – (click here to view the video presentation or copy and paste this url into your web browser – http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/outreach/videos/2013/02-courier-logistics/index.html)
Jane does a great job discussing how important couriers are to a lab’s business, the role(s) of the courier, what to look for in a courier and how outsourcing is a very real and often more efficient option for labs. Some of the key points Jane talks about in the video presentation are,
- the courier is the eyes, ears and face of the lab (and :-))
- the courier’s ability to improve efficiency while lowering costs
- the relationship between the courier company and lab is that of being partners rather than just a vendor
In addition, the presentation touches upon things such as the need for attention to detail, patience and understanding when dealing with end-users and patients, having the ability to do some “hand-holding” and following stringent guidelines including state and federal laws.
We’ve always stressed these things here at Speeedy Courier so it was refreshing to hear Jane talk about that in her video. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why our Medical division services so many of the top hospitals, labs, blood banks and medical supply companies in every market we’re in.
P.S. If you are sitting there right now thinking of your current courier/logistics situation and you’re not 100% sure your lab/company is in the type of solid and efficient partnership discussed in the video presentation, you may want to contact Speeedy’s Medical division to schedule a free consultation.
